Importance of cleaning Filters!

Some of you may not be aware of the need to clean your air-conditioning filter, or some of you may not know how dirty your filter can get. Believe me, you wouldn't want to know or see some of the things I've encountered.

So why is it important? So, for a basic explanation. (Today's example is a mini split system air conditioner, the long one that sits on the wall). Your indoor unit has a filter that traps any dust, pollens or any other unwanted nasties that can go through the system and a lot of it can build up on the coil (The metallic fin-type component located behind the filters.). That coil when the unit is running creates condensation. This over time can cause potential mold, bacteria on the fan and the coils itself as it has no way of drying itself. The fan barrel that sits under where the airflow is blown out, that is important to clean cause that's the air you're breathing in and cooling you. If filters are blocked, then you're restricting the airflow and that can also affect the performance of the unit. That over time can even cause issues due to the unit pushing hard.

Your system when used often, especially in the heat and the cold in winter, is going to get dirty quite quickly. Given the factors of the different environment, (nearby construction, nearby factory) it can be often for a deep clean approx 12-18mths. However, in between that you need at least every 4 months a basic clean.

Is, the deep clean should be minimum at least is pull the casing out then pressure clean the coils and fan barrel and sanitize to come back new, clean and sanitize filters and do the same as the outside unit. (This should be done by a professional, as there are electronics, and you don't want to ruin your system). Whereas a basic clean is clean and sanitize the filters, some may also give a basic clean over the coils and a good wipe over the indoor and outdoor unit and making sure unit is running fine.

So, it's important to clean your air conditioner often. If you want you and your loved ones to have nice clean fresh air and the unit to have longevity too, then you should do this as a priority. So, if you haven't had this done in recent time, then it's a good time to have someone to come and have a look and clean your system.
